Naps are Amazing

By Eia

When I was three years old, I was supposed to be taking a nap when I put white diaper rash cream all over my body. My mom came in and found me. I did not take a nap that day. Even though I don’t like taking naps, I am arguing for naps because they are amazing.

Naps keep you more alert and help people do to better in work and school. Doctors work all night and if they take a nap for as little as 24 minutes then it improves their cognitive performance. They can stay focused an awake while they are treating patients.

When your body is tired, then it is probably a good time to go to sleep. Scientists have studied that the human body has its own clock, and that it follows the dark and the light. So when it’s light we can stay more awake and when it’s dark we get tired. But if we mess that schedule up, then we start to get tired in the light during the day. Between 2 and 4 p.m. kids and workers in America usually try to stay awake. In other cultures, such as Spain and Greece, naps are very common. After their naps, they avoid mistakes and are happier. They know that it is probably good to sleep during the day when you are tired.

Sleep is also important, and naps can mess up sleep times. If you have sleep debt, then naps don’t completely cure it. You’ll be grumpy, have a foggy brain, and trouble remembering. It can also give you obesity, diabetes, and troubles with your heart. Busy workers that stay up all night, like 911 operators to answer emergency calls, sometimes they never sleep, so they need naps so they can focused during the day. So despite the negative effects of napping, some people’s jobs keep them up all night and they might need a nap to stay happy and focused on their job.

Because people like Albert Einstein, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Thomas Edison all took naps in a creative time and way, then they created stuff to improve our world. Ordinary people should take naps too so then they get creative ideas to improve the world. Naps are amazing, and maybe I will start taking them without diaper rash cream all over me.

My Dead Hamster

Written by Eia, age 10

I have had a hamster die. She was the best hamster. Her name was Anastasia, and we called her Ana for short. She used to try to bite my sister, but she didn’t do that to me.

My dad and me went to go dig her grave. I misunderstood two things that my dad did. One of them was I wanted her in a box, but my dad said no. I was confused why. I found out that it was harder for the hamster body to turn back into dust. The second thing was that I thought that my dad was squishing the hamster when he patted down the dirt, but her soul is up in heaven, and I’ll see her again in heaven.

After all of this happened, we went to go get a new hamster but the store didn’t have any. So we went to a different store and got stuck in traffic on a Saturday! There was a car fire.

At the new store, we saw the dwarf hamsters. There was a black one and a light brown. We didn’t like them, and we decided on a Sunfire D.J. hamster. She is a white hamster and her name is Juniper the Minecraft hamster, because she looks like a pixel on Minecraft when she lies down. We also call her Juni for short.

On Being Short

Written by Eia

I love being small.

I am the second shortest in my grade.

There is a boy who is smaller than me.

He is super small.

But people say they’re sorry for no reason about my height.

I love being small so I can fit in small places.

For picture day at school, people said sorry to me.

I said, “What for?”

And they said, “Your height!”

It drives me bananas and up the wall.

There’s nothing wrong with being small.

The Words that Changed My Life

I used to hate my freckles.

I used to think that they were horrible dots of death.

Then that very day my mom was looking at Pinterest.

Then my mom saw this poster and it said, “A face without freckles is like a night without stars.”

Right when I saw those words, that changed my life.

Now I love love love my freckles.

Those are the words that changed my whole entire life.

If you hate your freckles, I hope you love them now.
